Walk It! Bike It! Lewisburg

Walk It! Bike It! Lewisburg’s mission is to encourage and improve walking and biking in the Lewisburg area.  The committee arose out of public input during the River Town Team planning process.  Participants identified one of the top goals to be addressing how people get to the river and, more generally, around in the community — along with Awareness, Conservation, and Planning.  Walk It! Bike It! meets monthly on the first Friday of the month at 8am in the Borough Council Chamber (at 55 S 5th St) and on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30pm in the Cafe at the Giant food store in Penn House Commons.  In its first year of operation, it conducted a SWOC analysis, developed priority lists, and participated in community events.  Current work includes developing bike/ped maps for the area, organizing safety trainings, promoting national events like Bike to Work or Walk to School Days, organizing local events like River Road Holiday, and coordinating with regional bike/ped planning initiatives.

We have a really engaged group of volunteers and some great mascots — Louie and Louise B. Lite, strider and cyclist extraordinaires (developed by Jackie Kelly of Yay! Design).  We invite anyone who would like to be involved with improving conditions for walking and biking in the area to contact us and see how you can get involved.
