Time to Picnic!
In case you're wondering how this works, it's simple:  we make the arrangements and do the advertising.  It's up to you to help spread word and attend. What to bring? An appetite A plan for dinner, whether that's a picnic basket, some takeout, preferably from downtown Lewisburg's fine eating establishments, or legal tender to partake of what's on offer on site A blanket or some chairs Dishes and tableware (that's pretty standard for a picnic basket, but if you're feeling really ambitious, you could bring it even if you're getting dinner there in order to help cut down on the dish crew's obligations)…

What to bring?

  • An appetite
  • A plan for dinner, whether that's a picnic basket, some takeout, preferably from downtown Lewisburg's fine eating establishments, or legal tender to partake of what's on offer on site
  • A blanket or some chairs
  • Dishes and tableware (that's pretty standard for a picnic basket, but if you're feeling really ambitious, you could bring it even if you're getting dinner there in order to help cut down on the dish crew's obligations)
  • A frisbee or ball or jumprope or whatnot (though balls do have a documented tendency to wind up in the river)
  • Your kids
  • Your dog
  • Your friends
  • Your friends' kids
  • Your neighbors

You get the idea.

We've been holding our cleanups, riparian planting sessions, and meetings to make headway on conservation and walking/biking, so now it's time to turn to some lighter fare.  Please join us for this fall Picnic in the Park on Sunday, September 16, from 5:30 to 7pm at Soldiers Memorial Park on North Water Street by the river bridge.  Hopefully this is becoming familiar to many and you know the drill:  come out to the park, BYOBlanket, and either pack a picnic dinner, bring take-out, or get one from our community top chef team on site (chili and soups of various descriptions, ranging from meat lovers to vegan, gluten-free options, too, and an array of sides).  There is no charge for the food but donations to cover costs (and support future events like these) are appreciated.  We accept cash and PayPal.  Recommended donations:  $7/adult and $5/child but it's entirely up to you.  This is known as "pay-what-you-will."  The idea is that people pay commensurate with their ability to pay.  No one will be turned away (until we run out of food).  Those who can may put in a bit more and those who can't can still take part.

Parking is available on street and in the neighborhood.  The easiest access point on foot is at St John St.  In the event of rain, the event will be cancelled (please watch our On the River -- Lewisburg facebook page for updates if it's looking dicey).

While this may be familiar to you, others may not know about it, so be sure to tell your friends and bring them along!  Share this page and/or this image:

Past picnics have featured kids playing ball, wide-ranging games of tag, and ground-level hanging out.  This is your laid-back event, so make of it what you will.  Feel free to bring a guitar and serenade other attendees.  Or a frisbee.  Or your latest interpretive dance...

Remember, this time we'll be doing this...
