Doing their part...

Volunteer opportunities abound in our community and in the spring they're busting out all over.  Looking ahead to the next few weeks there are clean ups on trails and on the river, tree plantings, plant sales, garden work sessions, and tabling opportunities.

Behind the scenes, the LNC is hard at work on the Bull Run Greenway Planning Project, the RFP for which will be issued shortly, as well as working with students on various Bull Run Neighborhood and River Town Projects, and supporting the Borough

Flood Impact Task Force as we make our case for all the nuances of how a flood prone historic small town responds to and experiences flooding.  If your interest lies more with flood insurance issues, but you're not sure how you can help with that specifically, consider showing your support for the organization by participating in one of our other activities.  It's true that it there is a lot to be done with the FITF, but thus far we have needed fairly specialized skills.  Perhaps you want to help, but are better suited to planting things or picking up trash...

  • Buffalo Valley Rail Trail Clean Up, Saturday, April 18, from noon to 2, Buffalo Valley Outfitters
  • River Town Team Booth, Saturday, April 25, from 10am to 5pm, Soldiers Memorial Park
  • Shade Tree Commission Tree Planting Days, Sunday, April 26 from 12 to 6pm and Saturdays, May 2 and 9, from 10 to 4pm, Hunt Park (along St Mary St between St Lawrence and 11th Sts
  • Susquehanna River Clean Up Project, Saturday, May 2, 9 to 3pm, sites vary; join River Town Team folks as we put in in Lewisburg and float to Northumberland, (rsvp by April 27 at noon and let us know whether you have access to your own kayak or canoe or not)
  • Lewisburg Community Garden Annual Plant Sale, May 2, 9 to noon (hours to be confirmed); go buy plants or volunteer to help staff the event

To summarize, May 2, provided the weather cooperates, you could be kayaking and cleaning the river, buying and selling plant seedlings at the community garden, or planting trees in Hunt Park.  Get to it!
