IMG_4305Small town life has its own pace and rhythm and that is even more true of college towns.  Whereas the fall/winter/spring calendar is packed with academic, arts, and service opportunities and there are plenty of people to populate them.  During the summer, a significant portion of the residents disappear -- in fact, the population of downtown drops by 30%, effectively even more since though half the campus is officially in East Buffalo Township, they are situated much closer to the Borough.  The infrastructure to support everyone stays in place, but things look a good bit emptier.

Lewisburg fills up those lazy summer days with great events and activities like the (Non-)4th of July Celebration (parade as well as picnic and fireworks, the 2016 schedule is already posted on the website, so mark your calendars now) put on by the Union County Veterans in cooperation with the Borough and the weekly Music in the Park series and the Sidewalk Chalk Festival, both organized by the Lewisburg Arts Council.  As August and the new school year approach, the Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department host the National Night Out (Tuesday, August 4, from 5-9pm at the Lewisburg Area Regional Park on St Mary and 15th Sts, see flyer below) and the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership brings us BrewBQues (Saturday, August 8, with activities and promotions downtown all day long and BBQ vendors and Beer Gardens -- wrist bands on sale -- set up on North 4th and North 2nd Sts from 1 to 5pm).

IMG_4304The LNC and the River Town Team will soon be inviting you to step out at the close of August as well.  We'll hold our second Fall In-River Clean Up on Saturday, August 29, from 9am to 2pm, weather and conditions permitting (cross your fingers for suitably low water levels and very little sediment).  And then we'll bookend the summer evening events with a Fall Picnic in the Park on Wednesday, September 9, from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Soldiers Memorial Park (Bring Your Own Blanket!  And either pack a picnic dinner or purchase one from a restaurant down the street or from a vendor on site that evening.).

Hope to see you soon!
