In the last few months in response to growing expressions of public concern about traffic conflicts on Stein Lane and on Newman Road, Walk It! Bike It! Lewisburg invited the public to attend a Listening Session to hear and be heard on the subject. This month, the public is again invited to a Prioritizing Meeting, looking in more detail at the improvements needed in the community. Last month we shared a compilation of what we heard both in the way of issues and no-holds-barred problem-solving and then offered a draft of a “Country Roads” version of our Walk the Walk – Drive the Drive campaign which was one of the ideas that came up for WIBI to pursue at the last session. This month we are going to look more holistically at the many areas of need in the community and ask for your input on which issues are most acute and help clarify where the community might choose to focus its efforts.
Anyone and everyone is invited. There is no need to have taken part previously. We'd like to hear your perspective and think together about improving our transportation network.
Walk It! Bike It! Run It! Drive It! and Speak up! We'll be devoting our May evening meeting to this topic. So we'll meet on Thursday, May 17, at 7:30pm at Earl's Bicycle Store on Fairground Rd. You can find the facebook event here.
Walk It! Bike It! Lewisburg reminds everyone that we all have a role to play in making our streets safer. Walk the Walk and Drive the Drive today! http://
Your input is needed on a number of fronts, whether it's about high level issues of statewide import (as in this ongoing survey being conducted by PennDOT as part of the update of the statewide bike/ped plan), or it's time for a conversation about the nitty gritty issues of specific roads. In addition to our super local efforts, there is also a regional, as in seven county, bike ped plan underway now through the MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization) at SEDA-COG. They are also seeking your input with yet another survey (found here: tinyurl.com/regionalbike-ped) and with an information session/drop-in open house at Earl's from 5 to 7pm the same evening as this Prioritizing meeting. Come on out and share your thoughts.
Let's have a concrete local discussion about our roads including where the stop signs are, whether there's visibility and reasonable sight lines at the intersections, and the character of the shoulder and the right-of-way. Let's do this. Bring your friends!
