What is up? And how do you find out about it? While keeping an eye on this space may work for some who want to find out what's going on in the community, for many email and websites are hard to access. The LNC is considering joining the CommUnity Zone as a patron in order to share regularly in the print newsletter they create and distribute. For now the LNC manages to maintain an adequate online presence and has instituted regular email updates, but implementing a monthly print newsletter is costly in terms of both time and money. Joining forces with the CommUnity Zone offers a great opportunity which we hope may expand the LNC's reach to many in the community who don't operate as "netizens."
What does one find, when one checks out the CommUnity Zone newsletter? This month's edition can be downloaded from their website here, picked up at their site next door to the Campus Theatre, at cafes around town or in partner offices. Among other things, you will see notice of the upcoming public meeting about Phase II of the Rail Trail on March 17 and a CommUnity Zone Dance billed as a fun(d)raiser on March 22 from 8 to 11pm at the Lewisburg Club (all ages welcome, suggested donation $10).
There are also two programs listed related to social media, one of which the LNC is putting on. In combination with the Facebook 101 program tomorrow (March 8, 11am) at the Public Library, it looks like we have the bases covered. On Thursday, March 20, at 10:30am, there will be a Livable Communities introduction to Pinterest, and on Saturday, March 22, from noon to 1, the LNC has arranged for a workshop on how non-profits, small businesses and those who support them can use social media effectively to raise their profile. (For our program on the 22nd, bringing a web-ready device is helpful, but not required; the other programs ask that you bring a means of getting online.)
On the one hand, the CommUnity Zone newsletter is an opportunity to communicate with people who aren't online; on the other, this issue seems to be working to usher everyone into the digital age. On that note, if you'd like to get the newsletter publication notice and link emailed to you monthly, please email them at community.zone.lewisburg@gmail.com and ask to be put on the email list.
