Bucknell Students Hard at Work
Back in March, we posted a news item listing the myriad different Bucknell student projects that were afoot in connection with the LNC.  Looking back, we are happy to report that the results of those efforts have been quite impressive.  Some are still ongoing, but in the meantime, this is an update on the who, what, and why of the work. The North Ward Neighborhood got some focused attention from a senior Transportation Engineering student doing an independent study that included data collection for an ongoing residential parking study.  Her draft report is now in the hands of our office and the remainder of the project has been handed off to a second Transportation Engineering student who will be analyzing the data and making recommendations based on the results over the summer.  Many thanks to Bucknell Professor Michelle Beiler who is helping to make all this possible and to the Bucknell Institute for Public Policy which is funding the summer student.

The Bull Run Neighborhood also profited from the academic endeavors of two teams of geography students who studied the past, present, and future of the creek and the park running through the neighborhood.  One of those reports is now available on line and we will post the second once it is available.  The file is on the huge side, in part because of the wealth of great historical photos and maps they compiled and analyzed.  Thanks to Professor Ben Marsh for directing the students our way and shepherding them to such substantial results.

RiverCleanUp-39-C-Sp14 resizedIn addition to those neighborhood-focused projects, Management 101 students working with Professors Tammy Hiller and Neil Boyd undertook a major assist to our River Town initiative as the service component of the Company C Spring Semester project.  That applied the time and talent of 30+ students to the running of the River Town Block Party and the two riverbank clean-ups.  What a huge gift to the Borough!

Let's make the most of what they started by turning out for the Picnic in the Park at Soldiers Memorial Park on Thursday, May 29, from 5:30 to 7:30pm.  BYOBlanket and either pack a picnic dinner or purchase one from the three food trucks scheduled to be on hand:  That Kitchen Witch, The Buzz Taco Truck, and The Flying Bison -- dessert edition.  Anyone is also welcome to attend River Town Team meetings.  The next one is scheduled for June 25th, at 5:30pm, starting at the Lewisburg Hotel.

This summary doesn't even touch on all of the different projects.  We will post their final documents over the next few weeks.  We salute those who completed their work and have left for the summer and welcome those still working in our community this season -- including Community Garden interns and our own transportation engineering student intern.
