Interested in historic preservation?

Get involved:  Visit the Union County Historical Society and check in with the Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation to get started helping out with:

  • Sorting historical photos,
  • Formatting historic neighborhood walking tours,
  • Developing an information brochure about HARB, or
  • Working on Lewisburg-specific design guidelines.

Are you in the Historic District?  Check the map online at the Borough website.  If so, consider contacting a HARB member or attending a meeting (2nd Tuesday of the month, 5pm, at the Borough Building) to ask questions and perhaps have a courtesy review.  If you’re ready, download HARB and Zoning Applications and submit together by the end of the month (to the Keystone COG Office on Industrial Blvd) for review at the next HARB meeting.  Attend the meeting.  If approved, post Certificate of Appropriateness at the project site along with the Zoning and Building Permit.  Appeals can be made directly to Borough Council.

The HARB looks forward to working with you.  They are responsive and have a strong track record of helping property owners find the most effective and efficient solution to their design problems in a historically appropriate fashion.

Know what HARB covers:

  • The designated historic district
  • Only things seen from the street (nothing interior and nothing visible only from private space)
  • Fences but not other landscaping
  • Not paint color
  • Not replacement in kind (same material repairs)
  • Some accommodation for economic or technical infeasibility
