At their May meeting, the Lewisburg Borough Council voted to form a Flood Insurance Task Force (or Committee, the nomenclature is yet to be determined). The committee will consist of up to 14 people and will be chaired by Council Member Rob Cook. The large number is intended to be able to accommodate representatives of the local banking community and the insurance industry, as well as an architect, contractor and engineer. It is expected that both the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership and the Lewisburg Neighborhoods Committee will contribute a member.
Anyone with an interest in the topic is welcome to send an expression of interest to the Borough Manager, Chad Smith. (either by email at csmith@lewisburgborough.org or by mailing a message to the Borough Building at 55 S 5th St, Lewisburg, PA 17837). Borough Council will appoint members from among those interested. Homeowners, landlords, business owners, and renters are all welcome to participate.
The meetings will be open to public attendance even if you are not part of the committee. If you would like to be notified directly of when the meetings will be held, you can get on the LNC email list; they will also be publicized in the paper. Email elmstreet@dejazzd.com or call 570.523.0114 to get added to the list.
The Committee has a wide range of topics to address, from helping the Borough to assemble relevant resources for public education, to reaching out to officials at the County, State and Federal levels, to compiling concerns and data pertinent to the many different affected parties. The committee will also be responsible for assembling the follow-up communication to the letter Borough Council sent to our federal representatives in April on the subject.
The Committee is expected to meet on an as needed basis and the schedule has not yet been established.
