The Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation, working with the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership, is pleased to invite the general public to help populate the park by the river with a Picnic in Park on Thursday, May 29, from 5:30 to 7:30pm, at Soldiers Memorial Park on N Water St in Lewisburg. Anyone and everyone is invited. Bring your own blanket and either pack a picnic dinner or purchase one on site from the three food trucks that will be on hand (That Kitchen Witch, The Buzz Taco Truck, and The Flying Bison – dessert edition).
There is on-street parking available along Water Street, Market Street and in the neighborhood. After hours parking is also available at the Street of Shops. The crosswalk at St John St is the easiest way to access the park on foot.
This event is intended to bring more people to this underutilized space along the Susquehanna in Lewisburg, provide a fun and relaxing thank you to our volunteers, and highlight efforts the LNC is undertaking to create a River Town Team for Lewisburg. The River Town Team goal is to enhance the connection between the river and the community, both physically and culturally. While Lewisburg is clearly a town on a river, that fact is often overlooked and rarely celebrated. This Picnic in the Park is one piece of bringing people to the river.
Earlier this year, the LNC held a River Town Block Party, two riverbank clean ups, and a public meeting on flood insurance. Plans are also afoot for an in-river clean up to be held in September. The project was initiated by residents of the North Ward Neighborhood pointing out the need for better connections to the river and starting a conversation about whether a canoe/kayak launch could be put in in the Borough. The agenda for the 29th is to get people to come out and enjoy an evening picnic by the river.
In the event of rain, the picnic will not take place, but there will still be at least one food truck on hand available for "take out." (We're hoping for a favorable forecast.)
