The Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation has provided support to the Lewisburg Borough Flood Impact Task Force over the past several years, compiling information and studying the impacts of the changes in the National Flood Insurance Program on the Borough. The LNC was pleased to welcome Roderick Scott from the International Association of Structural Movers who gave a public presentation on flood mitigation on Tuesday, June 7, at 7pm, at the William Cameron Engine Company Training Facility.
The presentation was given by certified floodplain manager Roderick Scott from Louisiana-based L & R Resources, LLC. Mr. Scott was in Lewisburg to address the topic of flood hazard mitigation as a speaker during the annual PA Statewide Conference on Heritage put on by Preservation PA. The conference included a day-long Symposium on Flooding and Pennsylvania’s Historic River Towns. Mr. Scott generously offered to provide a free presentation to the general public the evening preceding the symposium. Anyone with an interest in or concern over the impacts of flooding on buildings in the region would benefit from the opportunity to learn from this expert with extensive experience with flood mitigation and structural elevation in particular as concerns historic buildings. He is based in Louisiana and has been involved in countless elevations of historic structures in the years since Hurricane Katrina. He has also worked in NJ post-Sandy and NY post-Irene and Lee, including work in a small town in upstate New York similar in scale to Lewisburg, Owego. He reviewed the legal, logistical, and financial aspects of flood mitigation and answered questions and discussed how to optimize next steps for our community.
The presentation is relevant to all and recommended both for people with a direct stake in flood-prone properties as well as those who live in communities threatened by flooding even if their own properties are not at risk. It was not specific to Lewisburg either.
