The Borough Flood Impact Task Force will hold a Floodplain Public Information Session on Tuesday, February 28, at 7pm, at the William Cameron Engine Company Training Facility. The meeting room is in the annex building on Buffalo Road and N 5th St. All are welcome.

The Task Force would like to take the opportunity to review various publicly available resources including maps of the floodplain and studies of the local impacts of the changes to the NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) which started taking effect a few years ago. In addition this will provide a chance for the Task Force to check in with residents and property owners about their concerns for structures in the floodplain in light of the ongoing changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) which started taking effect a few years ago. Materials to be reviewed include maps produced by the Union County GIS office showing the extent of flooding at different flood stages and clarifying the

location of the 100-year floodplain, the 500-year floodplain and the floodway. Maps and analysis generated by a summer intern from Bucknell University will also be on hand.  These materials are relevant both for the community as a whole and, particularly along the edges of the defined floodplain, for individual properties. In addition, the key features and importance of a Certificate of Elevation will be described in detail.

After the presentation, Task Force members will staff map tables where people can share their experiences and site issues as well as consider what local resources may be important for them and what next steps they may want to take (such as contacting their insurer and getting a Certificate of Elevation).

The Borough Flood Impact Task Force is an ad hoc committee created to assess and respond to the challenges posed by the NFIP rate changes for the community.
