Lewisburg is taking a Bloomsburg University student under its wing. His name is Jesse Lewis and he is a senior Geography-Urban and Regional Planning major at Bloomsburg University. He currently resides in the Bloomsburg area, but grew up in the “Triangle” region of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill). In the past two months he began volunteering his time to the Elm Street Program, and the Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation in Lewisburg, assisting with the construction of some base maps and other LNC projects. Mr. Lewis has been officially offered an internship with the LNC for the summer 2013 university semester (May to mid-August). This internship is a course requirement for planning majors (Environmental and Urban) at Bloomsburg University and is intended to further educate Mr. Lewis in the planning field and will also allow him to utilize his knowledge and other spatial analysis capabilities (such as GIS editing and analysis). He is under the supervision of Samantha Pearson, the Elm Street Manager, and is helping particularly with the study of a proposed new neighborhood revitalization area north of Cherry Alley, between the river and the North Shore Railroad tracks (parallel to North 5th Street). The Borough of Lewisburg welcomes interns and their assistance in bettering the community. Mr. Lewis demonstrates his interest in the field and his enthusiasm for the work as he provides great service for the borough. This is a great opportunity for him and the community. You may see him at some of the many committee meetings taking place in our borough. If you do, please give him a warm welcome.
