At the most recent North Ward Neighborhood meeting on September 5, the attendees compiled a list of notes and queries about historic elements of the neighborhood. What can you add?  Which questions can you answer?  Help us create a North Ward component for the town historical tours. HISTORY NOTES The house at the corner of St Anthony and N Water St was the tollhouse for the old bridge originally, or at least one portion of it was – presumably the front. Where exactly was it located in relation to the RR bridge? There is a common misunderstanding that it would…
New changes to Flood Insurance Rate Regulations started going into effect nationwide this year.  The webpage from FEMA with the most information can be found here.  They will affect all properties in the 100-year flood zone with subsidized/suppressed Flood Insurance Rates.  The schedule of when they will kick in varies depending on whether a property is a primary residence, multi-family, commercial or a second home.  They will not effect homes without flood insurance, though resale to anyone needing a mortgage would be affected. The Borough of Lewisburg has many properties in the 100-year flood zone.  Most have been grandfathered in…
Jesse Lewis, the Bloomsburg University planning student, who was a full-time intern with the LNC this summer compiled this description of his experience over the past 6 months.  It's great to see all the different things he worked on.  The work represents a substantial contribution to the community (and doesn't even mention the initial planning study he undertook to look at canoe/kayak river access feasibility at four sites in the area).  Lewisburg was lucky to have his assistance this year. In his own words: The time has come for me to say goodbye to the wonderful Borough of Lewisburg. I…

The Bull Run Neighborhood Ice Cream Social at S 7th and St Catherine in the cemetery was a hit. The final count isn't in yet, but there were well over 300 student residents who made an appearance.  They were greeted by representatives of the Bull Run Neighborhood and the larger community, including many long-term neighborhood residents, Borough Council, the Buffalo Valley Regional Police, the Keystone COG Codes Office, and the Elm Street Manager.  The year-round residents and officials were available to meet the students and talk in a constructive and positive environment, rather than having their first interactions be under conditions of…
Lewisburg is taking a Bloomsburg University student under its wing. His name is Jesse Lewis and he is a senior Geography-Urban and Regional Planning major at Bloomsburg University. He currently resides in the Bloomsburg area, but grew up in the “Triangle” region of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill). In the past two months he began volunteering his time to the Elm Street Program, and the Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation in Lewisburg, assisting with the construction of some base maps and other LNC projects. Mr. Lewis has been officially offered an internship with the LNC for the summer 2013 university semester…
